Opportunity Information: Apply for F25AS00376
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering funding through the African Great Ape Conservation Fund to strengthen wildlife veterinary capacity in Central Africa. This three-year initiative, titled MENTOR – ApeHealth, aims to enhance the ability of veterinarians and academic institutions to address great ape health threats, ultimately supporting regional and global health security.
The program's objectives include: 1) Training wildlife veterinary practitioners to manage health risks affecting African great apes. 2) Expanding the capacity of Central African universities to address wildlife health challenges. 3) Building a professional network to sustain expertise in great ape and wildlife health.
Infectious disease is a major threat to great apes, and improving local veterinary capacity is critical for both animal and human health. The program aligns with broader efforts to prevent future pandemics and protect biodiversity.
Eligible applicants include U.S. and international nonprofits, NGOs, indigenous organizations, and academic institutions. However, funding cannot be used for direct assistance to ineligible governments or government employees. The selected recipient will collaborate with the Service to co-design and implement the program.Apply for F25AS00376
